We utilize ozone in a variety of ways in our office.
The antimicrobial (bactericidal, virucidal fungicidal) effect of ozone is the most studied. Oxygen/ozone therapy in dentistry contains a multiplicity of protocols to deal with dental infection. Three fundamental forms of application are applied — (1) ozonated water, (2) ozonated olive oil, and (3) oxygen/ozone gas.
Ozonated water is used to irrigate patients during their hygiene/cleaning appointments.
Olive oil infused with ozone gas can be used to treat gum tissue inflammation and lesions.
Custom ozone trays can be fabricated to aid in the treatment of periodontal disease. Ozone gas is circulated through the trays during periodic treatments.
Once your tooth has been prepared for a restoration (filling, crown, etc.), Dr. Edwards will “float” ozone gas on your tooth prior to restoring your tooth.
